Taking Control of Your Life

Dec 5, 2022 | Personal Development

Sometimes the best way to add the right things in your life is to start by subtracting the wrong things.

After making the decision to move forward in our business and our life, we wrote a list of all the things we thought we needed to do to make that happen. We took that to-do list to our coaches to get their perspective. They said, “Your to-do list looks good, but where is the list of things that you need to stop doing?” Now, you might be thinking … “Well, I don’t have a ‘stop doing’ list.” And that’s okay, because we didn’t either. Like most people we were so focused on our to-do lists that we didn’t even think to create a “stop doing” list. But as we thought about that concept, it made a lot of sense. Most people have things or bad habits that steal their focus and make them less productive. These types of things or habits may seem harmless in the moment, but could actually be the main reason that you aren’t where you want to be in your business and/or your life.

So, how do you take back control? We suggest you try a little something called …

OPERATION: DISTRACTION DESTRUCTION

STEP #1: Identify your distraction.

STEP #2: DESTROY IT!

A distraction is anything that robs you of your focus and intentionality or pulls you off track from where you know you need to be going. For example: TV or movies, your phone, games, alcohol or food addictions, negative association, pointless hobbies, etc. These might be things that make you feel good in the moment, but over time can wreck you.

If you were to drink one drop of poison, it might not have a negative effect in the moment. But if you drank one drop of poison every day over time, it will kill you. Just like poison, bad habits can kill your focus, ambition, and success over time.

You can also view distractions as “bullies” that are pushing you around and trying to hurt you. No one likes a bully, so it’s time to FIGHT back and remind them that YOU ARE IN CONTROL. Don’t let those distractions keep pushing you around. Remember that we choose our habits, and our habits choose our results. You can choose to remove bad habits and distractions anytime. We all have 24 hours in a day, and what we do with that time is up to us.

STEP #1: IDENTIFY YOUR DISTRACTION — Be honest with yourself and put it on your “stop doing” list.

STEP #2: DESTROY IT! — Make a decision to take back your power and get that “bully” out of your life.

Complete a 30-Day Fast.

Now that you have your distractions on your “stop doing” list, it’s time to actually STOP doing them! We have found the best way to remind yourself that you are in control is to commit to 30 days without the distraction. We call that going on a 30 day fast. Cleanse the mind, body, and emotions of the distraction and take back control over your life. For 30 days commit to removing those “bullies” from your life. Get them out of sight and out of mind. Replace the distraction with healthier, wealthier, and wiser alternatives. Studies show it takes 21 days to create a habit and 90 days of doing that habit to make it a lifestyle change. Once you’ve finished the first 30 days, keep going strong. YOU CAN DO IT!

After you’ve completed “Operation: Distraction Destruction” and DESTROYED your distractions, you’ll fully take back the power over your life. Determine what your ultimate goals are personally and professionally. Get in touch with a successful advisor that can help you game plan for success. Once you clearly know where you want to go, you can start planning how to get there. Make sure that all your daily actions and habits set you up for success and help to keep you on track. Don’t forget to check in occasionally and make sure that old distractions aren’t sneaking in and taking over your time and focus again.

We removed our distractions and we know you can too.

Take back your power and say, “I’m in control of me!”

This is brilliant! Don’t just say you are going to stop doing something, intentionally commit to it and then intentionally follow through. A plan to succeed to build yourself, so you can build the life you want to start really living! A life with options and choices!

Well said! The good news (or bad news) is we are in control of our lives. Your life today is the result of the decisions you made months and years ago. As we start making better decisions, we’ll see the trajectory of our lives go up.

Make the Most of It!

Listen Up!

A wise man once told me, “You have two ears and one mouth for a reason. It’s because you should listen twice as much as you talk”. What does it mean to listen? And I mean really listen. It’s much more than simply hearing. It means to actually take mental notes of...
